Stanway Rovers Walking Football Teams are a part of Stanway Rovers Community Football Club. The walking football club was formed to provide an alternative inclusive home for playing the sport in this part of Essex. Our players come from all around the area, mostly from Colchester, but also from north and mid Essex.

The ethos behind walking football is fitness and fun. It is played at a slower pace. The aim is to keep fit, make new friends, and above all have fun. We welcome anyone from our local catchment area. You may wish to join us to get back into a sport you enjoyed playing in your younger years.

We presently run four men’s teams, a women’s team and a social squad. The men train on Monday evenings train on Monday evenings at Stanway School, Winstree Road, Colchester CO3 0QA between 5.00 – 7.30pm. The women’s squad train on Wednesday evenings. They practice at Stanway Rovers Football Club, 50 New Farm Road, Colchester, Essex, CO3 0PG. The training sessions are 7.00 – 8.30. The cost is £6 per person for 2 hours of walking football.

The basic Walking Football rules are as follows. No running is allowed. Each player can have a maximum of three touches. There is no heading the ball. The ball must be kept below head height, and no contact is permitted. For a complete list of rules, click here.

We do have some male players aged under 50 and some of the women’s squad are under 40. However, they are not eligible to play in any Friendlies or Tournaments with age restrictions. The participation in Friendlies and/or Tournaments is entirely optional.

Everyone is welcome to come along and give it a try.
Whatever your skill or fitness level, you are sure of a warm welcome.
